Have You Ever Tried Google Ads for Your Business?

If you’re not sure what Google Ads are, you’re not alone. While everyone has seen them, I rarely speak to a business owner that understands them.

When you do a Google search, you’ll see a page of results come up. The very first results you see are almost always Google Ads. They’re even marked as “Ads”.

So how do you know if Google Ads are right for your business?

When I speak with clients about Google Ads it always comes down to ROI or “Return on Investment”. If I feel that the numbers work out in their favor, then it’s worth testing. If not, then we look at other options.

I’ll walk you through an example of a business. It will help you understand how we figure out if this form of advertising is right for a business.

Let’s say that one of our clients is a plumber. We'll also say that on average, our client makes $350 per job.

When you run Google Ads you are charged each time someone clicks on your ad. The cost per click varies depending on how much competition there is in your area. Plumbing is a competitive industry so they might spend $10 on each click that happens.

It’s common for a client to bring in 10 new clients from Google Ads each month.

So, let’s do the math:

10 New Jobs = $3,500
Ad Cost = $1,000
Profit = $2,500

In the plumbing industry, it’s common for Google Ads to generate 10 extra new jobs in a month. In this example, the plumber would spend $1,000 on Ads, but they would make $3,500 in revenue. That means they would end up with $2,500 in profit.

This is where an understanding of ROI or return on investment comes into play. Most business owners would be terrified to spend $1,000 on an ad campaign - even when they know they are going to get $3,500 for it. I’ve seen far too many business owners turn their back on doing Google Ads because they don’t understand ROI.

Now, the good news is that you don’t need to spend $1,000 on Ads per month. Most businesses spend far less than that. It’s different for each business, but the gains are typically the same. It’s rare to find a business that can’t increase its profits with Google Ads.
